Lifetime Learning

From the time I was a child, I have loved learning a lot. School was something I enjoyed, I even went back to take my masters after a few years of work. But this is not really solely confined to academics.

I realized that I motivate myself through learning. My life seems to be meaningless without this. And so I choose to spend my time making sure that lifetime learning is part of my life.

I worked in a job that allowed me to go from one project to another every few months to a year or so, because I find each project to be different, and thus, a learning opportunity each time. After 18 years in corporate, which offered so many variety, I seem to have exhausted that variety. I had a huge urge to take that leap and move out. After a year outside of that world, I still couldn't find myself to get excited about going back to that world. And I realized that it's because I'm looking for something new, something to be excited about again.

During the last year, I ventured into the world of enterpreneurship, and most specifically, online business that focused more on retail and marketing - a thousand miles away from my previous career which focused on service. I also choose to stay in the small business area as compared to the vast corporate world I've been in almost two decades. I start from scratch, yes. It doesn't pay as much as I made, but I'm learning. I had to learn about graphic design, about advertising, about production, and so many more which I have not done in my previous career. And I can find myself waking up each day excited to do this. It isn't easy, as it is not always successful, but somehow, there are just so many areas that I have not discovered. And sometimes as I discover these, it grows more ideas and thus, more opportunities. I can feel life has a purpose again.

Outside of work, I like to travel and take photos because I love to see new places, meet new people and gain new experiences. Everytime I get to see a new place or experience something different, I feel more and more complete. I feel I have achieved something even if I wasn't in control of the situation.

Even at home, I have learned to manage a household, redecorate our house, know more about financial investments and doing budgeting. All of these are new to me, and I enjoy doing them.

Big or small, it doesn't matter, as long as I am learning new things. Lifetime learning, to me, lets me feel that I'm progressing, I'm moving, I'm growing through this journey called life.
