Welcoming Home Lexie

Today, I welcome home a new baby to the family, a very cute puppy named Lexie :-) It was an exciting day for all.

In the morning of this special Sunday, me and my nieces went to pick Lexie up at the breeder's home. One of the first decisions we had to make was who would hold Lexie on the way home. I was the driver so I needed someone who would keep Lexie calm in case she panicked or got scared, being that she will be leaving her mom and siblings for the first time. My youngest niece was appointed. My older niece was to support her. And my nephew was our bodyguard, LOL.

As soon as we arrived, the puppies were playing around. Lexie was tied with a pink ribbon. And I was quite surprised to see her quite big now compared to when we last saw her, which was just 4 weeks ago. Even my two nieces said she looked like she grew from two weeks ago when they last saw her. Nevertheless, she's still a cute little puppy.

So, we signed documents that needed to be submitted for Lexie's registration papers and also talked about vaccine schedules, feeding schedules, etc. My nieces were then busy playing with the puppies, which included Lexie and her siblings.

As we left, Lexie felt a little bit of panic but wasn't really particularly worried about leaving. She seemed like a little kid ready to go out and play. The car ride home was great. Lexie was just looking around, didn't really feel dizzy or sick. My nieces were on top of everything.

When we got home, we brought him up to the second floor. Lexie didn't seem to mind the new environment, and seemed eager to explore. First thing we did was take her out on the terrace and had her go on the newspaper. Few seconds after, she had her poo, just like clockwork. My nephew took care of setting up the crate, and we placed Lexie's water and toy in it. We then let her explore it a bit. The toy wasn't really a hit for her. Let's see if she will be interested in it in the next few days. She took some sips of water and was agitated about the crate. We left her to explore a bit, despite her complaints. After a few minutes, we brought her out to play. She went around the family hall to explore and my nieces played with her for quite a while. She seems to love people and not shy even to new people. She likes snuggling by your legs or by a corner.

Soon after, we brought some new friends by, her dad, who's the resident dog in the house, and two of our neighbors. Lexie started to growl. But as I read, they will just be getting used to each other, and we should slowly ease them in. I put Lexie out on the terrace and her dad Chubby inside the house, having the sliding screen door be there to block them physically in the mean time. They started to bark and smell each other. After a few minutes of hyperactivity, they both calmed down. And for a while, they seem to like each other. Although Chubby's rough movements scared Lexie for a bit, so we decided to bring Chubby back down to the first floor. The two neighbors were also agitated so my niece brought them back home.

Well, all that activity should have tired them out. We left Lexie in her crate and gave her some food. She didn't seem interested and started to whine. We went ahead to have our meals. After a while, Lexie tired herself out and laid down to sleep. She woke up several times but she seemed comfortable enough to go back to sleep.

Hours after, she awakens and my nieces started to play with her again. And we took her out again to see if she will pee or poo. She started to smell the newspaper. As soon as she turned away, I put her back on the newspaper and after two tries, she did her poo again, just like clockwork.

The entire afternoon after, she was sleeping anywhere she could cuddle up, where my nieces were doing their afternoon activities. She seem to enjoy the company even if she's just going to sleep anyway.

My other niece came to visit, and was so happy to see the new puppy, a little bit of adjustment was needed to hold the new puppy since it was so small, but soon after Lexie was playing around. My brother and sister-in-law came over after a while to pick up my niece and nephew. And then in a few minutes, my other brother came up after having his haircut. Suddenly, there are many people around and Lexie didn't seem to mind the fuss. It was nice to see the family get around to see the new member of the family, just like a real baby, LOL.

My sister-in-law, who's always been scared of dogs, had a great time, enjoying the new puppy, and even holding Lexie. Everyone wished that Lexie would stay this small and this cute, LOL.

Soon after, everybody left for home. So it was me and Lexie. I brought Lexie down to visit Chubby a second time today, and she started growling again. Well, maybe tomorrow. Today was a tiring day.

At dinnertime, she had a bit of food. I put her dry kibbles in water to soften it a bit, and she ate some. I guess all this excitement had also made her lose her appetite. But so far, she has eaten a bit, drank a lot of water and poo twice today, so nothing really to worry about yet.

She's sleeping beside me now in another chair. Again, she had to look for a spot to snuggle. I have a throw pillow on the chair which she uses. After an hour, she woke up and played a bit on the chair, climbing up to the table to see what's up. Then finally went back to sleep.

Day 1 seems ok. She appears a bit subdued, maybe tired from the day and also misses her siblings. But overall, she has been quite independent and cooperative.

Let's see how the next few days go :-)
